Subject: IP CODES (Not to be confused with Intellectual Property or IP Address) IP Code, means; "Ingress Protection Rating" or may also be interpreted as the "International Preamble: A basic understanding of IP Codes will assist shoppers in locating products suited to their needs.
Countless combinations of numbers and letters can be combined to make up IP Codes.
We will Only address IP Codes most frequently found on our products; IP65, IP67 and IP68.
We know IP means "Ingress Protection Rating" Following this, each Digit, Numeric or Alphabetic,
has a specific meaning of little importance to most customers who just wish to know if the fixture can withstand the conditions under which they intend to use it.
The most frequently asked questions are; Knowing the meaning of the first digit, number 6 and meaning of the second digit, number To read an IP code, look at the numbers or letters as two distinct and separate digits so for 65
we would see 6 and then 5.
The first digit indicates what solids might enter the fixture (From any size object to fine dust)
and the second digit indicates what level of fluid (from drops to a pressurized stream) might
enter the fixture.
6 is the highest degree of dust free integrity possible; The second digit signifies what degree of liquid is prevented from entering the fixture. 5 is a moderate degree of watertight integrity; 7 is a higher degree of watertight integrity; 8 is the highest watertight integrity rating;
The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer. Normally, this means the equipment is hermetically sealed. However,
with certain types of equipment it can mean water may enter but only in such manner as to
produce no harmful effects
APPLYING IP CODES:
IP 65 Indoor and Outdoor use IP 65 is considered acceptable except under extreme conditions. If a fixture is to be installed in a car wash for example, where it could be subjected to high power hoses it would be much better to consider IP 67. IP 67 An IP 67 rating is ideal for use in a shallow pond (maximum depth 1 meter) such as a Fish Pond or Lily Pond where a fixture may be used for various purposes.
